A groundbreaking collaboration has been initiated to establish one of the largest AI infrastructure clusters globally, known as Stargate UAE.
This venture is spearheaded by a coalition of prominent technology firms, including G42, OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank Group, with plans to be developed at the newly launched 5-gigawatt UAE–U.S. AI Campus in Abu Dhabi.
This initiative has been recognized as a “historic advancement” in the realm of global AI collaboration.
G42 is tasked with leading the creation of Stargate UAE, while OpenAI and Oracle will manage the operations of the cluster.
Cisco will deliver the necessary cybersecurity and AI-capable network infrastructure, with Nvidia set to provide its advanced Grace Blackwell GB300 systems to fuel the computational needs.
Ultimately, the facility aims to deliver 1 gigawatt of computational power, with the initial 200-megawatt cluster anticipated to become operational by 2026.
According to a joint statement from the partners, the new project is set to offer “top-tier infrastructure, national-scale computing capacity, and low-latency inference capabilities to cater to the demands of a progressively intelligent society.”
Specifically, the cluster is expected to facilitate innovations across various sectors, such as healthcare, energy, finance, and transportation.
Peng Xiao, CEO of G42, remarked, “The initiation of Stargate UAE marks a pivotal moment in the UAE-U.S. AI collaboration. As a founding partner, we take pride in collaborating with organizations that share our commitment to responsible innovation and meaningful advancement on a global scale. This initiative is about creating a bridge – founded on trust and ambition – to bring the advantages of AI to economies, societies, and individuals worldwide.”
This announcement follows the unveiling of the UAE–U.S. AI Campus last week, a significant event that included the participation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The campus is integral to the recently established “U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership,” aimed at promoting secure and responsible AI development through collaborative investment and innovation.
As part of this alliance, UAE companies are also set to invest in U.S. digital infrastructures, including the Stargate U.S. initiative, consistent with the newly enacted “America First Investment Policy.”
“This marks the first major achievement in our OpenAI for Countries initiative – our mission to partner with allies to establish global AI infrastructure,” stated OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman. “It’s a step towards ensuring that critical breakthroughs of this era – such as safer medicines, customized education, and modernized energy solutions – can arise from diverse locations and benefit the planet.”
“AI stands as the most transformative force of our era,” expressed Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia. “With Stargate UAE, we are developing the AI framework that will empower the country’s ambitious vision – enhancing its people, stimulating its economy, and influencing its future.”
