Ten startups in the climate technology sector presented innovative solutions focusing on circular economy principles during an introductory event organized by the UAE’s independent climate accelerators “UICCA” in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy. This event was part of the latest iteration of the “Launchpad” program.
The initiative aims to foster the growth of startups operating in climate technology by creating a supportive environment that facilitates access to funding, market opportunities, specialized guidance, and policy support. Each cycle of the program emphasizes a specific area of climate action, with this cycle dedicated to developing circular economy solutions that repurpose waste or convert it into valuable resources across vital sectors such as food, water, energy, and infrastructure.
These 10 selected companies were chosen from over 150 applicants worldwide, based on the viability of their technological solutions and their promising potential. The innovations presented included techniques for decentralized composting, textile recycling, rare minerals extraction, industrial reuse, organic waste management, and circular water desalination.
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President and CEO of the UAE’s independent climate accelerators, stated: “Building a true circular economy necessitates a reevaluation of traditional economic models, shifting from merely reducing impact to restoring value and rejuvenating systems.”
“We are investing through the ‘Launchpad’ in startups that embody this vision in practice and offer actionable solutions to complex environmental challenges.”
She further noted that the collaboration with the Ministry of Economy represents a significant step toward enhancing the enabling environment for these solutions and accelerating their adoption across various sectors.
Maria Hanif Al Qasim, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Policy and Studies at the Ministry of Economy, added: “The Ministry takes pride in its official partnership with the Launchpad program for the circular economy led by the UAE’s independent climate accelerators, reflecting our commitment to fostering partnership-based innovation and expediting the shift to more sustainable economic models.”
She emphasized that the program serves as a vital platform connecting entrepreneurs, investors, regulators, and decision-makers, aimed at redesigning economic systems to be inherently regenerative and inclusive. The ministry believes in this direction’s importance and is committed to collaborating closely with independent accelerators and partners from both the public and private sectors to bring this vision to life, contributing to the sustainable economic development goals of the UAE.
The “Launchpad” program will continue in future cycles, focusing on carbon solutions and climate adaptation, further supporting the UAE’s vision of becoming a global hub for climate innovation.
