Global South Utilities, a company based in the United Arab Emirates and owned by Abu Dhabi’s Resources Investment, has signed two agreements with the government of Madagascar aimed at enhancing the nation’s renewable energy production and accelerating its transition to clean energy.
Under the first agreement with Madagascar’s Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons, Global South Utilities will develop a 50-megawatt photovoltaic solar power plant, along with a 25-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system in the city of Moramanga.
This agreement serves as a foundation for a future power purchase agreement with the national electricity company, JIRAMA. The project is expected to be completed within 12 months. The second agreement outlines a framework for collaboration on additional renewable energy projects with a total capacity of up to 250 megawatts. The signing ceremony was attended by Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina at the Iavoloha presidential palace.
