Ali Alhashmi Elected President of the “Global Union of Satellite Operators

Space 42, a company specializing in AI-driven space technology, has announced the appointment of Ali Al Hashimi, the CEO of its space services division, as the Chairman of the Global Satellite Operators Association (GSOA). This marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first Emirati to hold this prestigious position.

Al Hashimi has served as the Vice President of the GSOA since 2023, bringing with him over 20 years of experience in telecommunications, defense, and space sectors. At Space 42, he has spearheaded major initiatives, including the launch of the Al Thuraya-4 satellite in January 2025 and the introduction of direct device-to-satellite communication services in Africa. He also leads the Amroc center for advanced maintenance and repair and holds board positions at the UAE Space Agency and the National Center for Space Science and Technology.

Previously, as the CEO of Yahsat prior to its merger into Space 42, he successfully led the company’s initial public offering on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange in 2021, which was the second-largest IPO in the exchange’s history. He also managed the merger of Al Thuraya following its acquisition in 2018.

Al Hashimi has gained international recognition, being listed in Forbes Middle East’s Top 100 CEOs for 2023 and 2024, as well as featuring in the 2023 Leaders in Sustainability list.

Regarding his new role, Ali Al Hashimi stated, “This appointment holds great significance for me both personally and professionally. Having served as Vice President of the association since 2023, my selection today reflects the trust placed in me by leaders in the global sector. I am honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to building upon the rich legacy of the association, as we strive to advance a vision that connects the entire world.”

Joining Al Hashimi in the leadership team of the association are Adil Salah, CEO of SES, and Gene Nkeshi Egerton-Edehin, CEO of Nigcomsat, who will serve as Vice Chairs. This team represents a wealth of experience reflecting the diversity and global expansion of the satellite ecosystem, incorporating perspectives from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. This diversity is set to enhance the association’s mission of fostering comprehensive, sustainable, and innovative growth within the sector.
