Emstille Pioneers Global Sustainability in the UAE Steel Industry

The United Arab Emirates has solidified its leading position in the steel production industry on both regional and global scales, backed by national strategies focused on enhancing industrial sustainability and improving production efficiency. These strategies align with the country’s goals to achieve climate neutrality by the year 2050.

Emsteel, through its subsidiary Emirates Steel, emerges as a significant player in supporting this initiative by developing advanced solutions and meeting the growing demand for high-quality steel products in various strategic projects both domestically and internationally. This has reinforced the UAE’s status as a prominent regional and global hub in the steel sector.

The group contributes approximately 6.2 billion AED to the Gross Domestic Product of Abu Dhabi, capturing 10% of the total non-oil manufacturing sector in the emirate and holding a 60% share of the national steel market.

Eng. Saeed Ghamran Al-Rumaithi, the CEO of the group, reported strong performances in the steel sector during the first half of 2025. The sales of ready-made steel products witnessed a year-on-year increase of 24%, reaching 1,616 tons, driven by rising demand and the full utilization of production capacity, which allowed for the transformation of semi-finished products into finished goods that efficiently meet customer needs.

He elaborated that the group focused on converting semi-finished products, such as billets, into final products, including rebar, wire coils, and heavy sections with higher added value. This strategy has enhanced profitability and market share, supported by robust demand in energy and infrastructure projects.

During the same period, the group launched an asset enhancement program worth 625 million AED aimed at developing rolling mills and expanding the range of high-strength steel products and wire coils. This investment reflects its commitment to fostering industrial growth in the UAE and boosting its status as a key steel supplier in the Gulf, Indian, and North African markets, while maintaining a focus on production flexibility and innovation to cater to long-term project needs.

Several clients of Emsteel confirmed that the group’s products have become the preferred choice in the local market, thanks to their quality and compliance with sustainability standards. They noted that the volume of monthly imports of these products indicates a growing trust among customers and developers across various projects.

Ahmed Nasr Al-Din, Sales Manager at Al-Fawzan Group’s Emirates Building Materials Company, stated that they have partnered with Emsteel as a strategic ally for over 15 years, noting that the volume of imported steel from Emsteel’s factories reaches around 50,000 tons monthly, with over 25,000 tons allocated for sustainability projects within the emirates.

He added that there are plans to increase this amount to 60,000 tons per month in line with the expansion of major projects and the rising demand for green steel, highlighting that Emsteel’s sustainability certifications have enhanced its competitive edge in the market.

He pointed out that the extensive branch network of Emirates Building Materials facilitates broad access to the group’s products, ensuring adherence to quality and efficiency standards at every stage of distribution.

On another note, Iswar Kalpati, Regional Sales Operations Manager at Union Iron Works, emphasized that the longstanding collaboration with Emsteel over the nearly two decades has made it a key driver of growth in the country’s steel sector. He indicated that his company imports between 25,000 and 35,000 tons of its products each month, which include wire rods and rebar coils, distributed across over 200 strategic projects in the UAE market.

He elaborated that these projects include critical facilities such as Dubai Airport and Jebel Ali Port, as well as multiple infrastructure initiatives in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai, underscoring that the reliance of these projects on Emsteel products reflects a strong confidence in their quality and ability to meet operational requirements efficiently.

This close collaboration between Emsteel and its strategic partners in regional and international markets showcases the UAE’s growing leadership in the steel sector and its capability to support major national projects while meeting sustainable infrastructure demands, further enhancing the country’s status as a leading industrial and investment destination globally.
