Emirates Global Aluminium Plans Expansion of Spectro Alloys Plant in the USA

Emirates Global Aluminium, the world’s largest producer of high-quality aluminium, has announced an expansion of its Spectro Alloys aluminium recycling plant located in Minnesota, USA. This expansion will increase the plant’s total capacity to over 200,000 tons annually.

The new project will enhance the facility’s recycled aluminium production by an additional 45,000 tons. The construction is anticipated to be completed by 2027.

The first phase of the Spectro Alloys expansion, finished in July of this year, contributed to a production increase of 55,000 tons of aluminium alloys.

The latest expansion includes the addition of a new furnace for melting scrap and a mixing unit. The aluminium produced at this facility is marketed under the “Revival” brand, which is part of Emirates Global Aluminium’s recycled aluminium products.

Abdul Nasser Ben Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, stated, “The next phase of the Spectro Alloys expansion is a significant step in strengthening our operations in the United States and meeting the strong demand for our high-quality ‘Made in America’ primary and recycled aluminium products.”

According to independent research firm CRU, the demand for recycled aluminium in the United States is expected to reach around 8 million tons annually by 2034, making it the second-largest market for recycled aluminium globally.

In Oklahoma, Emirates Global Aluminium plans to establish the first primary aluminium production facility in the United States since 1980, with an expected capacity of 600,000 tons per year, which is double the current total domestic aluminium production in the country.

Moreover, Emirates Global Aluminium is currently working on constructing the largest aluminium recycling plant in the Al Taweelah area of the UAE, with an annual production capacity of 170,000 tons of aluminium billets.

Operations at this facility are projected to start in the first half of 2026. It is noteworthy that Emirates Global Aluminium acquired an 80% stake in Spectro Alloys in 2024.
