The “Al Ajban Solar Energy” Project Strengthens Scientific Collaboration Between the UAE and China

POWERCHINA welcomed a group of students from Hamdan Bin Zayed School, part of the Chinese Language Education Project “Project of a Hundred Schools,” in a special event at the Abu Dhabi Solar PV3 Project site, which has a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts. This visit was centered around the theme “Solar Energy: A Bridge for Cooperation and Exploring a Green Future,” aimed at educating students on the role of renewable energy in achieving sustainability goals in the UAE.

Project manager Joe Hluo greeted the participating students, praising POWERCHINA’s initiative to connect education with practical applications of clean energy. He noted that this project is one of the leading clean energy endeavors in Abu Dhabi and emphasized how such visits inspire the younger generation to explore the fields of science and innovation in renewable energy.

The main representative of POWERCHINA in the UAE, Hong Li, delivered a presentation about the company’s prominent projects on both global and regional scales, highlighting its contributions to engineering innovation and social responsibility while fostering collaboration between China and the UAE in sustainable development.

The program included an educational session on solar energy, where experts from the company explained the principles of electricity generation through photovoltaic panels, their operational mechanisms, and the technical challenges associated with building large power plants in desert environments. The students engaged in discussions and posed questions regarding the components of the plant, energy storage methods, and strategies to maintain panel efficiency despite dust accumulation.

At the conclusion of the visit, Li Junqi, the Vice President of POWERCHINA’s regional headquarters for the Middle East and North Africa, delivered a speech referencing ancient Chinese proverbs about learning and friendship. He praised the students’ curiosity and their role as bridges for understanding and green development between the two nations.

The event concluded with a field tour of the project’s “Solar Sands” area, where students and teachers learned about the stages of design, construction, and smart operation of the plant while observing the solar panels up close. Many students expressed their excitement about this experience, which enhanced their interest in clean science and technology.
