Fly Dubai Anticipates Agreement with General Electric for the Purchase of 60 Engines

Flydubai has entered into a new agreement with GE Aviation to procure 60 GEnx-1B engines, intended to equip the airline’s inaugural fleet of wide-body aircraft, comprising 30 Boeing 787-9 jets.

Key Details of the Agreement

The contract, finalized during the 2025 Dubai Airshow, also includes backup engines and long-term support services to facilitate the launch of the airline’s long-haul operations.

This arrangement reinforces Flydubai’s strategy for ongoing growth and network expansion, enabling the airline to enhance capacity across current destinations and address the increasing demand from passengers. Established in 2008, Flydubai has experienced substantial growth and currently serves over 135 destinations across 57 countries, with plans to add long-haul routes to its expanding network.

Statements from Leadership

“Over the past years, Flydubai has solidified its position as a key player in the aviation sector, driven by a vision aimed at making travel through Dubai a global hub. The performance and robustness of our engines are vital to our operational success and fleet expansion strategies, especially with the anticipation of welcoming the Boeing 787 into our fleet in the coming years. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with GE Aviation as we embark on this new growth phase,” stated Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of Flydubai.

Russell Stokes, President and CEO of GE Aviation’s Engines and Services, remarked, “We are proud of Flydubai’s confidence in GE Aviation technology as the airline enters its next growth phase. The GEnx-1B engines will deliver reliability, efficiency, and durability for the company’s first wide-body fleet. We are excited to contribute to advancing Flydubai’s expansion plans.”

Previously, Flydubai placed its first order for the fuel-efficient 787 Dreamliner, aiming to broaden its horizons and offer the right product at the right time to meet evolving market and customer demands.
