His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Faris Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, stated that the progress the UAE is making in the energy sector is a result of a forward-looking leadership vision that recognizes the interconnection between energy security and sustainability. During the UAE Energy Forum 2025, he noted that global energy demand is steadily increasing to meet the needs of artificial intelligence and large data centers, predicting a rise in demand for all energy resources, including fossil fuels. He emphasized the UAE’s readiness to help meet global demand by enhancing investments in the energy sector.
He mentioned that the sixth edition of the UAE Energy Status Report reflects the true state of energy transition within the country, revealing that the total clean energy production capacity has surpassed 12.4 gigawatts, with 6.8 gigawatts sourced from renewable energy and 5.6 gigawatts from peaceful nuclear energy. He highlighted that the target for renewable energy capacity aims to reach 22 gigawatts by 2031, which would account for over 35% of the nation’s energy mix.
Furthermore, the minister expressed the nation’s ambition to attract additional new investments in the renewable energy sector, in alignment with the global developments affecting the sector and the increasing global demand for the energy mix. By the end of 2024, the UAE is expected to achieve approximately 90% of its investment plan for renewable energy, which amounts to 200 billion dirhams by 2030.
Modern Technologies
Al Mazrouei pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is actively working to leverage modern technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance energy efficiency and reduce consumption in government buildings. Projects aimed at reducing consumption by up to 30% for water and electricity have been launched. He emphasized the ambitious plan in line with the guidance of wise leadership to supply large data centers with renewable electricity, while also achieving a balance between demand and sustainability in energy usage. This approach aims to position the UAE as an attractive global hub for large data centers that require renewable energy at competitive prices, highlighting a project converting solar energy into electricity around the clock to power the largest data center in the region, further contributing to the UAE’s role in clean energy.
Additionally, Al Mazrouei noted that the UAE recognized early on the significance of the semiconductor industry through its leading companies worldwide. He stated that those who control this industry can effectively contribute to shaping the future of artificial intelligence. The UAE is one of the key nations that have invested in advanced technologies requiring greater energy, as well as in capabilities that enhance the country’s leadership in this vital field.
Status of Energy
The UAE Energy Forum 2025, held in Abu Dhabi, witnessed the launch of the sixth edition of the UAE Energy Status Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the latest developments and transformations within the sector. It consists of seven chapters examining national policies, strategic visions, and technological innovations supporting the redefinition of the energy production and consumption landscape, in alignment with the country’s goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Faris Al Mazrouei reiterated that the UAE Energy Forum reflects the country’s steadfast commitment to building a sustainable and resilient energy sector capable of adapting to global transformations. He noted that the UAE Energy Status Report serves as a national reference documenting achieved progress and outlining the future direction of the sector’s transformation, which relies on effective partnerships, innovation, and data-driven policy-making, ultimately enhancing the UAE’s status as a leading global center for clean energy and sustainable development.
He asserted that the advancements realized by the UAE in the energy sector today are a result of a proactive leadership vision that understands the integration of energy security and sustainability. The UAE continues to provide a realistic global model for energy transition by investing in practical solutions, expanding clean energy projects, and following a balanced approach that considers economic growth needs while reducing emissions, thereby transforming climate commitments into developmental opportunities and fostering international partnerships that accelerate climate action, ensuring a secure and sustainable future for the coming generations. The forum also included a youth session dedicated to empowering young people and engaging them in shaping the future of energy in the country. Al Mazrouei honored the winners and participants of the UAE Energy Management Award 2025 in its ninth edition.
