Asilah Al-Mualla: Advanced Environmental Strategy Leading Fujairah Towards a Smart and Sustainable Urban Future

Asila Abdullah Al-Mulla, the Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority, participated in the session titled “Redefining Sustainability” during the inauguration of the 18th World Future Energy Summit, part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026. She provided a comprehensive overview of the development of the environmental framework in Fujairah and its strategies aimed at transforming the emirate into a green city based on advanced technology and innovation.

During the session, organized by the Sustainability Executives Network in collaboration with the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, Al-Mulla emphasized that the Fujairah Environment Authority operates under a long-term strategic plan focused on enhancing the emirate’s resilience to climate change. This plan prioritizes the protection of its rich natural resources and the development of an environmental infrastructure that supports the transition to a low-emission green economy.

She highlighted the authority’s commitment to establishing integrated ecological systems that include smart resource management, continuous monitoring of climate variables, and field projects aimed at balancing economic growth with environmental preservation.

Al-Mulla underscored that technology plays a central role in the authority’s future vision. She noted that Fujairah relies on remote sensing technologies, digital mapping, big data, and artificial intelligence to monitor and analyze environmental patterns. This approach aims to improve air and water quality, protect wildlife, and develop proactive policies aligned with global requirements.

The importance of wise leadership directives in enhancing Fujairah’s status as a sustainable city, while maintaining its natural character and embracing innovation, was also emphasized. Al-Mulla pointed out that collaboration between government entities and the private sector is a fundamental pillar for achieving national sustainability targets.

She concluded that dialogue platforms such as the Sustainability Executives Network, which includes prominent leaders from both the public and private sectors, play a vital role in fostering effective partnerships and developing joint initiatives. These efforts will enhance the UAE’s readiness to achieve the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and participate in shaping global development directions beyond 2030, culminating in goals set for 2045.
