The Dubai Chamber of Commerce, part of the three chambers operating under the Dubai Chambers umbrella, has announced the launch of the “Sustainability 365” initiative, running from October 6 to October 30. This initiative aims to promote the adoption of responsible business practices among the private sector and support sustainability initiatives across all sectors.
The “Sustainability 365” initiative serves as the new identity for the “Sustainability Week” events, celebrating the 10th anniversary of its launch in 2015 by the Dubai Chamber’s Business Ethics Center. This reflects the chamber’s commitment to encouraging the business community to embrace sustainability as an integral aspect of corporate operations throughout the entire year.
This year, the “Sustainability 365” initiative is themed: “Purposeful Work: Empowering Communities through Responsible Business Practices,” highlighting the essential role that businesses play in advancing sustainable social development and enhancing long-term positive impact. The initiative includes a series of events designed to provide the business community with practical training and knowledge to effectively implement sustainability practices.
This development marks a significant step in the chamber’s effort to support the adoption of environmental, social, and governance sustainability standards by companies in Dubai, expanding the event agenda into a month full of discussions and activities aimed at enhancing the private sector’s role in achieving sustainable development.
Maha Al Qargawi, Deputy CEO for Supporting the Interests of the Business Community at Dubai Chambers, stated: “Over the past decade, we have actively worked to integrate sustainability practices into the business ecosystem in Dubai. The launch of the ‘Sustainability 365’ initiative is a pivotal moment in this journey. It signifies not just a rebranding and extension of the events, but underscores a deep belief that social responsibility is an essential part of the work culture and a continuous driver for positive change in serving the community.”
Since its inception in 2015, the annual Sustainability Week hosted by the Dubai Chamber has served as a critical platform for dialogue and collaborative efforts in sustainability, with participation from over 720 companies throughout the years. Over the past decade, the topics covered have evolved to address pressing challenges and emerging issues, including health, diversity, stakeholder engagement, and the role of artificial intelligence, fostering an open environment that encourages active participation from various community segments.
The program kicks off with the “Business Responsibility Forum,” gathering top executives and business leaders to discuss the role of purposeful business in generating a positive community impact. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion focused on achieving a new model that transcends traditional methods, involving an interactive simulation to explore challenges faced by purposeful companies, as well as highlighting opportunities to enhance their impact and sustainability.
Additionally, the program will feature the “Global Forum on Sustainability and Social Responsibility,” which brings together key stakeholders in the fields of social responsibility and sustainability to discuss the latest trends and best practices. Throughout the month, the “Business Responsibility Academy,” developed by the Business Ethics Center, will offer a series of virtual training sessions overseen by experts, focusing on sustainability and practices based on goals and values.
Since its establishment, the Business Ethics Center has played a vital role in promoting responsible and sustainable practices in Dubai, actively supporting and encouraging companies to adopt social responsibility, thereby enhancing their performance, competitiveness, and contributions to social and environmental well-being. The center provides a range of platforms, tools, and knowledge resources to assist companies in integrating governance, sustainability, and social responsibility into their corporate practices.
