In an ongoing effort to strengthen strategic partnerships with the private sector and leading global companies in logistics, Dr. Abdullah Bousnadi, the Director General of Dubai Customs, made an official visit to the facilities of DHL, one of the largest logistics and shipping companies worldwide, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the department.
Upon arrival, Dr. Bousnadi and his team were welcomed by Mahmoud Haj Hussein, the General Manager of DHL Express in the UAE, along with several senior officials and managers from the company.
The primary purpose of the visit was to explore ways to enhance mutual cooperation and improve operational support for logistics within Dubai, aligning with the emirate’s vision and its global leadership position in trade and logistics. During the meeting, DHL presented a comprehensive overview of its operational framework, its technical and operational infrastructure designed to facilitate and expedite shipping and transportation processes, and detailed insights into its global network for managing cross-border trade flows, particularly focusing on e-commerce shipments.
Dr. Bousnadi emphasized that collaboration with leading global companies such as DHL is fundamental to strengthening Dubai’s competitiveness as a global hub for trade and logistics. He noted that Dubai Customs is committed to developing a flexible and efficient customs environment that meets the highest international standards and practices.
He further highlighted that partnerships with the private sector contribute significantly to enhancing the emirate’s ability to attract quality investments and improve supply chain efficiency, especially in light of the rapid growth in e-commerce and air and sea freight activities.
During the discussions, both parties addressed several future joint initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of customs procedures, supporting innovation in digital services, and exploring the utilization of smart systems to expedite customs clearance processes, facilitating the flow of goods through the company’s centers. They also discussed the integration of digital systems between Dubai Customs and DHL’s operational platforms to ensure the highest levels of fluidity and reliability in shipping transfers.
The delegation toured the company’s facilities, examining advanced sorting rooms, distribution centers, and the modern technologies employed in tracking and managing shipments. They also learned about DHL’s smart solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency and reducing delivery times. Additionally, the delegation was briefed on the company’s future plans for expanding its operations in Dubai and the region, enhancing its operational capabilities in response to growing market demand.
Mahmoud Haj Hussein expressed his appreciation for the crucial role played by Dubai Customs in creating an effective customs environment that bolsters trade activities and provides global companies with broader opportunities for expansion and growth. He affirmed that Dubai is a key logistical hub within DHL’s global operations and that ongoing cooperation with Dubai Customs significantly enhances service quality and operational efficiency.
This visit is part of a series of field trips conducted by Dr. Abdullah Bousnadi to strengthen communication with strategic partners, keep abreast of onsite developments, and reaffirm Dubai Customs’ commitment to supporting the trade ecosystem and facilitating business operations, in line with the emirate’s vision of establishing Dubai as a leading global trade and logistics center.
