Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation, known as “Empower,” the world’s largest district cooling service provider, has announced its sponsorship and participation in the second edition of the International District Energy Conference in Latin America (LAC2025). This event is set to take place in Santiago, Chile, from September 9 to 10. Among the attendees will be Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, and special advisor to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), along with a member of the board of the International District Energy Association (IDEA) and President of the Gulf District Cooling Operators Association. He will participate in the main sessions on the first day, surrounded by prominent experts, industry leaders, and decision-makers in the district cooling sector from around the globe.
The conference is organized by the Ministry of Energy and the Sustainable Energy Agency in Chile, backed by the Global Environment Facility and supported by UNEP, the Cool Coalition, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and IDEA. Its agenda includes a variety of discussion sessions and workshops addressing diverse issues related to energy systems, showcasing experiences from numerous countries in implementing these systems, and their successful expansion, featuring around 25 international speakers and experts from the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia, and the United Arab Emirates.
During the conference, Ahmad Bin Shafar will highlight Empower’s achievements in establishing a robust district cooling sector both locally and globally, emphasizing the company’s role in promoting and widely adopting sustainable cooling solutions. He will also showcase the exemplary model set by Dubai and the UAE in the implementation of sustainable district cooling techniques, along with significant milestones achieved towards emission reduction and carbon neutrality, contributing to global climate aspirations. These efforts have led Dubai to be recognized as the “Champion City” worldwide in the district cooling sector.
