Exploring the UAE’s Experience at the Arab Chambers Meetings in Cairo

Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Mujaid, Chairman of the Ajman Chamber of Commerce and a member of the UAE Federation of Chambers, discussed the UAE’s experience in implementing best practices of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the private sector during the 136th session of the Arab Chamber Federation Council. Representing the Federation, Al Mujaid participated in the meetings aimed at enhancing Arab economic collaboration and coordinating efforts among various chambers of commerce. The meetings held in Cairo recently saw the participation of delegations from 17 Arab Chamber Federations, including presidents and board members from chambers of commerce and industry across Arab nations.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Abdullah Al Mujaid emphasized the significance of adopting CSR practices within the private sector and their direct impact on increasing productivity, fostering environmental and social balance, and supporting comprehensive sustainability.

He highlighted the UAE’s leading role in applying effective CSR practices, underscoring the vital contribution of the UAE chambers, particularly the Ajman Chamber, in raising awareness among private sector members regarding environmental conservation, energy efficiency, recycling initiatives, and enhancing the quality of life for employees.

Al Mujaid also introduced the latest innovative CSR initiatives from Ajman, notably through a collaborative agreement between Ajman Transport Authority, the “Majra” National CSR Fund, and Uber to provide accessible and free transport services for senior citizens. This initiative represents the concerted efforts of both the public and private sectors in delivering quality services that address community needs and improve life standards.

Promoting Collaboration

The meetings featured a discussion between Egyptian Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk and participating delegations, focusing on ways to strengthen economic and commercial collaboration among Arab countries. The minister provided an overview of the investment opportunities available in Egypt across various sectors, reinforcing his country’s commitment to supporting economic and investment partnerships with Arab nations.

The agenda also included a report on the activities and events conducted by the General Secretariat of the Arab Chamber Federation, along with various initiatives aimed at enhancing Arab cooperation with other nations in the fields of innovation and advanced industries. The meeting reviewed the “Economic Research Platform in the Arab Chamber Federation,” approved the Federation’s final accounts for 2024, and discussed the budget forecasts for 2026.

Attendees were informed about the activities of joint foreign Arab chambers of commerce, including those from Italy, Austria, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Britain, and Turkey, as part of the effort to boost economic partnerships and expand collaborative commercial horizons.

The discussions also addressed the potential impacts of global economic changes and tariffs on both Arab and global economies, the role of chambers of commerce in empowering Arab talents in the digital age, human resource development, and enhancing women’s roles in shaping the future, as well as environmental and social sustainability applications. Additionally, the international events agenda scheduled for 2026 was reviewed.
