The Department of Economic Development in Ras Al Khaimah has announced the launch of the “Ramadan and the Consumer” initiative. This effort aims to enhance public awareness regarding consumer protection and to promote responsible consumption practices during the holy month of Ramadan. The initiative will be implemented through a comprehensive digital awareness program targeting various community groups.
According to Faisal Abdullah Al-Youn, Director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department, the initiative will feature the creation and distribution of 30 educational video clips shared daily across social media platforms throughout the month. These videos are designed to inform the public of their rights and obligations under existing legislation while highlighting the regulatory and educational roles of the department to ensure a fair and safe business environment. He added that the program aims to showcase the vibrant economic landscape and active trading in markets and shopping centers during Ramadan, offering simplified awareness messages that help bolster consumer confidence and support market stability. The program will utilize an innovative and interactive approach through organizing on-site meetings within shopping centers and local markets, which will include daily quizzes and contests for the public, facilitating direct and engaging communication of awareness messages and increasing community awareness regarding consumer rights and safe shopping practices.
Al-Youn emphasized that the “Ramadan and the Consumer” initiative stems from the department’s commitment to intensifying awareness programs during Ramadan, a period characterized by significant commercial activity. He highlighted that the initiative aims to cultivate a culture of conscious consumption and ensure that commercial enterprises adhere to regulations and laws, striving to achieve a balance between consumer and merchant rights and fostering a transparent and just business environment.
He also noted that the initiative enjoys the support of several sponsors and partners, reflecting a community partnership that demonstrates the collaboration between government entities and the private sector in promoting awareness and encouraging sound business practices. Al-Youn reaffirmed the department’s dedication to continually improving the oversight and awareness system, enhancing consumer trust, and supporting sustainable economic growth and market stability in Ras Al Khaimah.
