Signing of the Agreement for the Implementation of Phase Four of the Airspace Restructuring Project

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, alongside representatives from local civil aviation authorities and the Ministry of Defense, has signed an agreement for the implementation of the fourth phase of the airspace restructuring project. This strategic move reflects the UAE’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of its aviation sector. The agreement serves as the primary tool for governing financial, legal, and technical aspects of the project among all strategic partners.

This initiative is a continuation of previous phases aimed at supporting future growth in air traffic within the country’s airspace, optimizing air space usage, and improving safety and operational efficiency in line with the best practices and international standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The fourth phase of the project focuses on developing advanced air traffic management concepts, enhancing the capacity of air routes, and integrating operations among various types of airspace users. Additionally, it supports the strategic expansions of airports and national carriers.

According to Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, the Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, “The fourth phase of the airspace restructuring project is a pivotal step in preparing the country for the future of aviation, ensuring the capability to accommodate anticipated growth in air traffic, and establishing a flexible and robust airspace system and infrastructure for the future while maintaining the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency.”

National System

Ahmed Al Jallaf, the Assistant Director General for Air Navigation Affairs at the authority, emphasized, “The airspace restructuring project continues the successes of the previous three phases, as we work with our strategic partners to develop a comprehensive national system for airspace management, enhancing integration across all aviation operations. This aligns with national and global air navigation plans, strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global hub in the aviation sector.”

This project is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to advance its aviation sector, support innovation, and modernize airspace management systems, reinforcing the UAE’s role as a key player in global civil aviation while keeping pace with the sector’s growth. In 2025, a significant increase in air traffic is projected, with a growth rate of 6.8%, totaling 1,098,851 flights, with an average of approximately 3,010 daily air movements, underscoring the continuous expansion within the aviation industry.
