The completion rate for the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has reached approximately 68.59%, with around 1,000 megawatts operational out of a total capacity of 1,800 megawatts. Over 2.236 million photovoltaic solar panels have been installed, and the total number of panels is expected to reach nearly 3.959 million by the project’s completion next year.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), conducted a site visit to the sixth phase of the solar park, which has a total capacity of 1,800 megawatts and an investment of approximately 5.5 billion dirhams. This visit aimed to closely observe the progress of the work.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is recognized as the largest solar energy complex located in a single site globally, developed by DEWA under an independent power producer model. This initiative is a crucial component in achieving Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050. During his visit, Al Tayer received updates on the progress of phase six from officials of “Shuaa Energy 4.” Currently, the operational capacity of the park stands at 3,860 megawatts, with an additional 800 megawatts from projects in progress. By 2030, the capacity of the complex is set to increase to 7,260 megawatts from the originally planned 5,000 megawatts, with clean energy sources projected to contribute about 34% of Dubai’s total energy production.
DEWA is executing the sixth phase of the park employing the latest bifacial photovoltaic solar panel technology, which harnesses sunlight reflected on both the front and back sides, along with a single-axis solar tracking system. This phase will provide clean energy to roughly 540,000 homes and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 2.36 million tons annually. The project spans an area of 20 square kilometers.
Accompanying Al Tayer during his tour were Walid bin Salman, Executive Vice President for Business Development and Excellence, along with several senior officials and engineers from DEWA.
