Sultan Al Jaber Honored as an Honorary Fellow of the Energy Institute for His Leadership Role in Connecting the Energy and Artificial Intelligence Sectors

The Energy Institute has awarded an honorary fellowship to Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies. This recognition is in appreciation of his leadership role in linking the energy sector with artificial intelligence and promoting international collaboration to help establish global energy systems that support sustainable economic growth.

This fellowship is the highest honor given by the Energy Institute, aimed at highlighting Dr. Al Jaber’s numerous remarkable achievements, including securing significant deals and his efforts in providing some of the world’s most cost-effective and low-carbon intensity hydrocarbon resources. He has also worked to expand the adoption of renewable energy sources and implement advanced technologies amidst a rising global energy demand projected to continue until 2040 and beyond.

Currently, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber holds multiple roles: he is the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology in the UAE government, the Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its subsidiaries, and serves as the Chairman of Masdar and the Executive Chairman of XRG.

He received the honorary fellowship from Dr. Nick Wayth, the CEO of the Energy Institute, during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026.

This fellowship is granted by the Council of the Energy Institute, led by Chairman Andy Brown, who is a recipient of the Order of the British Empire and a fellow of the institute. It recognizes individuals who have made outstanding and sustainable contributions towards building a better future for the energy sector by achieving an organized, responsible, fair, and secure transition to clean energy sources.

Andy Brown praised Dr. Al Jaber’s extensive experience in the industry, energy, and government sectors, emphasizing his role in fostering positive dialogue between public and private sectors and between energy producers and consumers in light of increasing global energy demands.

In response, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber attributed this distinguished recognition to the vision and guidance of the UAE’s leadership. He noted that this honorary fellowship reflects the growing global demand for energy resources driven by significant growth in emerging markets and the advancement of artificial intelligence and technology, which necessitate the provision of a diverse mix of reliable, low-emission energy options at affordable costs. The UAE’s balanced and practical approach lays a strong foundation for building a secure, sustainable, and prosperous future for all.

Brown further stated that Dr. Sultan Al Jaber has been at the forefront of key developments in the energy sector over the last two decades through his roles in ADNOC, Masdar, and now XRG.

He clarified that based on the comprehensive methodology adopted by the UAE, Dr. Al Jaber takes a practical approach addressing the rising global energy demand, the ongoing role of hydrocarbons, and the necessity to make them cleaner, more efficient, and less polluting. He affirmed that the granting of the honorary fellowship is a significant recognition of Dr. Al Jaber’s contributions to reshaping the global energy agenda and his unwavering commitment to dialogue and practical efforts aimed at creating a safer and more sustainable future for all in the energy sector.

Notably, under Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber’s leadership, Masdar has boosted its renewable energy capacity by 150% since 2022, reaching 65 GW, enhancing its global position in clean energy. The company is making tangible progress towards its goal of achieving 100 GW capacity by 2030, alongside its pioneering project to provide 1 GW of continuous renewable energy, redefining the concept of scalable clean energy.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber has also successfully guided XRG in doubling its market value to $151 billion within just one year, highlighted by the acquisition of the German company Covestro and other significant agreements in Mozambique, Egypt, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and the USA.

During the UAE-hosted COP28 conference, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber unified efforts from around 200 countries to achieve the historic “UAE Agreement,” which includes the most comprehensive and ambitious measures agreed upon within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change since the Paris Agreement, with unprecedented landmark achievements such as tripling renewable energy production goals, doubling energy efficiency, and halting deforestation by 2030.

He also oversaw the launch of the “Oil and Gas Sector Emissions Reduction Charter,” encompassing 56 oil and gas companies in the largest decarbonization effort in history. The COP28 presidency successfully gathered financial commitments for climate action worth tens of billions of dollars, including the launch of the Alterra fund, a $30 billion climate investment platform initiated by the UAE, aimed at mobilizing $250 billion by 2030.
