Abu Dhabi: The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held discussions on Sunday with Syrian leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa regarding the relationships between their nations and recent regional developments, according to a report from the UAE’s state news agency WAM.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation for mutual benefit and included an exchange of opinions on regional matters of concern to both parties.
Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the UAE’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at bringing about stability and development in Syria, along with fostering a secure and thriving future for the country.
Al-Sharaa, as reported by Syria’s state news agency SANA, highlighted the significance of ongoing coordination with the UAE. He commended Abu Dhabi’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and acknowledged its role in fostering regional stability amid escalating challenges.
This meeting follows Al-Sharaa’s inaugural visit to the UAE on April 13, where he engaged in dialogue with Sheikh Mohamed about strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional matters. Subsequently, the UAE reinstated flights to Syria, which had been halted in early January due to escalating unrest linked to the downfall of former President Bashar al-Assad.
