The market for goods and services continued to thrive last year, particularly in the latter half, when 7,000 trademarks were registered, according to data from the Ministry of Economy. This surge reflects the growing demand for products and services, along with suppliers’ and producers’ confidence in the market, driven by strong consumer interest and a desire among providers to register more trademarks for their offerings.
Activity was notably concentrated during July and August, which saw the registration of 3,000 trademarks, while 4,000 trademarks were recorded in the preceding four months, averaging around 1,000 registrations each month.
The range of trademarks varied widely, including real estate development firms, food production companies, commercial trade brands, shopping centers, investment firms, as well as technology, electronics, financial, and banking sectors. Additionally, notable categories included automotive services, maintenance, clothing, gold and cosmetics, and the restaurant industry.
Furthermore, trademarks were registered across various service sectors such as tourism, education, hospitality, construction, and healthcare.
In terms of the nationalities of trademark owners, domestic companies held a significant portion of the registrations.
Free zone companies also represented a noteworthy share, including a considerable number of Gulf and foreign enterprises, demonstrating a diverse range of nationalities amongst these firms, many of which have extensive experience operating in the UAE.
