The tourism sector in the UAE is experiencing an increasing reliance on digital services, intelligent personalization for guests, smart data analytics, and mobile check-in procedures, utilizing smart applications to enhance tourism through official platforms like “Visit Abu Dhabi,” “Visit Dubai,” “Visit Sharjah,” “Visit Ajman,” and “Visit Ras Al Khaimah,” among others. Utilizing modern technologies within the tourism sector provides a seamless visitor experience featuring integrated and swift digital government and tourism services, including visa issuance and tourist information access, intelligent transport services, and advanced public transport networks like metros and buses equipped with cutting-edge technology, simplifying navigation within cities and ensuring advanced tourist data availability.
Many hotels in the UAE have adopted intelligent virtual systems to address routine inquiries from tourists and visitors, with 39% of hospitality operators utilizing chatbots or virtual assistants for round-the-clock support, offering recommendations, and managing administrative tasks. This allows staff to focus on more complex interactions.
In a bid to become the first government globally to operate fully on artificial intelligence by 2027, Abu Dhabi aims to automate 100% of government operations, supported by a €13 billion investment in digital infrastructure via the Digital Government Strategy 2025-2027. This initiative includes major projects like Zayed International Airport, which launched a “smart travel” initiative utilizing biometric recognition technologies, significantly reducing the duration of airport processing by 70%.

The digital hotel check-in technology has been adopted as one of the primary channels in all Dubai hotels and holiday homes, offering a smart, quick, and secure arrival experience for both local and international guests.
These initiatives improve operational efficiencies, reduce wait times, and create a more adaptable hospitality ecosystem that meets the demands of modern travelers. New technologies allow guests and visitors to Dubai to complete check-in procedures via smartphones before traveling by verifying identity data and registering biometric information just once, eliminating the need for retaking these processes on subsequent visits.
Upon arrival at the hotel, guests pass through a digital arrival path that does not require them to stand at reception desks, as previously documented data is securely used, and nothing is requested again until the identity document expires. In subsequent visits, only quick biometric verification, like facial recognition, is needed to confirm entry in just seconds, improving visitor comfort, especially for frequent visitors within twelve months of their past trip, who account for nearly a quarter of the emirate’s total annual visits. This enhances hotel operational efficiency and aligns with Dubai’s advanced technological infrastructure, including smart passages at Dubai International Airport, which have reduced passport control processing times to mere seconds.
The new technology is designed for easy integration into existing hotel applications and electronic platforms at current facilities and can also be utilized at various direct guest contact points, such as car rentals, paving the way for a comprehensive and customized tourism experience throughout the emirate.
To support startups in the tourism sector, the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mastercard, a global leader in payment technology solutions, to establish a unique digital partnership for the city. This agreement enables the development and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with digital tools, resources, and guidance to enhance innovation, competitiveness, and sustainability while fostering growth in the tourism ecosystem through the use of digital technologies to evolve Dubai’s tourism sector. The provision of innovative payment solutions and improved visitor experiences will support the emirate’s vision to rank among the top three cities globally for entertainment, business, and specialized services for visitors.
