His Excellency Khalid Muhammad Balama, the Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, led the country’s delegation to the 86th meeting of the Central Bank Governors’ Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council, held in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by Khalid Ibrahim Hamidan, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, with the participation of Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, along with the central bank governors from the member states. They discussed several strategic topics of mutual interest and reviewed key indicators of monetary and financial developments within the Council’s member countries.
The governors explored ways to enhance cooperation and integration among the Gulf central banks, particularly in areas like payment system connectivity, banking supervision, financial technology, and innovation. Additionally, the meeting emphasized the importance of sharing expertise and information to strengthen cybersecurity within the financial and banking sectors, while also reviewing joint efforts to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
The UAE Central Bank delegation included Ibrahim Obaid Al Zaabi, Assistant Governor for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability, Ibrahim Mohammed Al Hashimi, Assistant Governor for the Executive Office and Secretary General of the Board, and Saif Hamid Al Dhaheri, Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services, along with several senior officials from the central bank.
