The United Arab Emirates organized a “High-Level Youth Summit in the Aviation Sector,” aimed at empowering the next generation of aviation professionals. This initiative was a joint effort with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), supported by Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency, the Airports Council International (ACI), the International Coordination Council of Aerospace Industry Associations (ICCAIA), Eurocontrol, and the Global Aviation and Space Team (GAAST). The summit took place alongside the 42nd ICAO Assembly meetings in Montreal.
The summit was inaugurated by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Civil Aviation Authority, who emphasized that the event, featuring broad international participation, reflects a shared vision that the future of both local and international aviation relies on the talents, creativity, and leadership of young people. He noted that the main goal of the summit was to empower future aviation professionals.
Al Suwaidi pointed out that the sector faces pressing challenges, including digital transformation, climate change, and the transition towards a more sustainable system while balancing the growth demands of the aviation industry. He stressed that addressing these challenges requires innovative ideas and international collaboration, stating that this summit is a significant step towards ensuring active youth involvement in shaping the future of the sector.
A Platform for Youth to Share Insights
The summit provided a dynamic platform for young people from around the globe to discuss topics related to the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) program, exchange ideas, and build connections based on innovation and diversity. Participants were also able to learn about practical experiences in employing artificial intelligence to enhance safety and efficiency within the sector.
A Diverse Agenda and Panel Discussions
The agenda included contributions from high-ranking officials in global aviation organizations, alongside youth discussions, panel sessions, and specialized workshops addressing future issues. Topics covered included future skills in aviation and aerospace and the opportunities they present for young talent. The roles of new technologies in operational processes at airports and their potential to boost efficiency and improve passenger experiences were also discussed. Additionally, other pressing issues such as sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation were prioritized on the global aviation agenda.
The summit also served as an opportunity to enhance networking and experience sharing among participants, contributing to the formation of promising career paths for youth and fostering international cooperation in the aviation sector.
