Space 42 has announced the development of the first sovereign mobility cloud in the UAE, leveraging the “sovereign public cloud” from Core42 in conjunction with the Microsoft Azure platform.
This initiative aims to expedite the deployment of autonomous mobility solutions while ensuring secure data hosting within the country and compliance with national regulations. The sovereign mobility cloud serves as a comprehensive platform that upholds the UAE’s sovereignty in smart transportation, providing a reliable infrastructure for mobility data and autonomous systems. It also includes advanced capabilities for high-resolution mapping, remote communications, fleet management, digital twins, and traffic regulation, while establishing a secure environment for data exchange among government entities, academia, and various sectors.
Future phases of the initiative will involve launching reference pilot projects, regulatory sandboxes, and testing centers in collaboration with transportation authorities in the UAE. Global partners from the automotive and technology sectors, as well as universities, will be engaged to broaden the ecosystem’s functionality.
The sovereign mobility cloud combines Space 42’s expertise in mobility solutions with the sovereign cloud capabilities from Microsoft and Core42. Space 42 will lead the deployment of applications, coordinate with regulatory bodies, and promote the adoption of solutions through pilot programs, demonstrations, and commercial launches. Core42 and Microsoft will offer the cloud infrastructure based on their data centers in the UAE and provide artificial intelligence platforms, governance frameworks, and security protocols to ensure data sovereignty and compliance with local regulations. Additionally, Microsoft will provide training, technical expertise, and joint investment to foster the growth of the operational framework.
This initiative highlights the ongoing collaboration between Space 42 and Microsoft, which previously included the launch of the “Africa Map Initiative” in partnership with Esri in July 2025 and the availability of Space 42’s Geospatial AI platform (GIQ) through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.
Space 42 is at the forefront of innovation in the autonomous mobility sector. Since 2021, its TXAI service has successfully recorded over 600,000 kilometers of safe self-driving and nearly 20,000 passenger trips in Abu Dhabi, utilizing a fleet that covers Saadiyat, Yas, Al Maryah, and Reem Islands, as well as Abu Dhabi International Airport. In addition to its autonomous taxi services, Space 42 continues to develop smart mobility solutions, including high-resolution mapping, digital twins, and AI-supported fleet management, in collaboration with regulatory bodies and academic institutions to ensure that innovation aligns with safety standards and global best practices.
