The United Arab Emirates has achieved a significant milestone in enhancing its international presence in the engineering sector, as it was officially announced that the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) has selected the UAE to host the World Engineers Congress (WEC2027) during a meeting held in Shanghai, China.
The announcement followed a presentation by the UAE Engineers Association, which highlighted the country’s readiness to organize major international engineering conferences. This readiness is based on its advanced capabilities in innovation, sustainability, and infrastructure, along with its ambitious vision for developing the engineering profession and enhancing its global competitiveness.
Commenting on this achievement, Abdullah Youssef Al Ali, President of the Engineers Association, stated, “The UAE’s successful bid to host the World Engineers Congress reflects international confidence in our abilities to manage large-scale engineering events. This hosting presents an opportunity to showcase the competencies of Emirati engineers and their contributions to the future of the sector on a global scale, cementing the country’s position as a leading hub for engineering innovation regionally and internationally.”
WEC2027 is organized in partnership between the Engineers Association and Dubai Municipality, with both parties playing essential roles in planning and management. Dubai Municipality will collaborate with the association to coordinate organizational and logistical operations and work with public and private entities to ensure a world-class event.
Maryam Al Mehairi, Executive Director of the Building Regulation and Licensing Agency at Dubai Municipality, affirmed that this win reflects the UAE’s established status as a destination attracting top engineering talents from around the globe.
She remarked, “We, at Dubai Municipality and the Engineers Association, view this congress as an exceptional opportunity to highlight the UAE’s pivotal role in leading engineering dialogue, presenting the latest innovations and solutions, as well as global engineering challenges for discussion, aimed at developing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. “Dubai Business Events,” the official bureau for attracting events and conferences affiliated with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, has played a significant role in preparing the hosting bid in collaboration with the Engineers Association, leveraging its expertise in planning, organization, and logistical support to ensure a robust and comprehensive proposal that demonstrates the emirate’s readiness to host an event of such magnitude and excellence.
WEC2027 is set to be one of the most prominent international engineering gatherings, featuring elite engineers, experts, and decision-makers who will discuss current engineering challenges, showcase the latest innovations and solutions, and enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors as well as academic institutions. The congress is scheduled to take place in Dubai in November 2027.
