BYD UAE Introduces A System That Charges The Battery In 5 Minutes Enough To Travel 400 KM For The First Time

BYD Emirates has unveiled its cutting-edge ultra-fast charging technology in the United Arab Emirates. This advanced charging system, which the company plans to launch soon, addresses the major concerns surrounding charging times that deter customers from purchasing electric vehicles. Consequently, the system will accelerate the country’s transition to sustainable transport and bolster its strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

The innovative Megawatt Flash Charging system from BYD Emirates, part of its Super e-Platform, directly tackles the apprehensions consumers have about electric vehicle charging. It offers high charging capabilities that rival traditional refueling speeds. This development responds to global demands, enhancing the appeal of electric vehicles and demonstrating their efficiency for individuals and businesses throughout the UAE.

Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD, stated, “BYD Emirates began the development of its ultra-fast charging system out of a commitment to deliver the best experiences in the market, providing customers with rapid charging of just one second for every 2 kilometers and five minutes for 400 kilometers, matching the speed of traditional fuel refilling.”

This new system for ultra-fast charging batteries features an advanced structural design that supports high voltage levels up to 1000 volts and allows for unprecedented charging currents of 1000 amps with a battery charge rate of 10C, both of which are standard in commercial electric vehicle charging. The system delivers an exceptional charging power of 1 megawatt (1000 kilowatts), achieving the world’s highest charging speed of just one second per two kilometers.

The anticipated system offers maximum convenience for BYD electric vehicle drivers in the UAE, requiring only five minutes of charging for a range of up to 400 kilometers. This time is comparable to that taken by conventional internal combustion engine vehicles for refueling in terms of speed and efficiency.

This significant leap in charging technology will empower more individuals and organizations to adopt electric mobility, supporting the UAE’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector.

Lucas Pelioud, General Manager of Al-Futtaim Electric Mobility, remarked, “Al-Futtaim’s vision for preserving the planet aligns with the UAE’s commitment to building a sustainable future and its strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Therefore, we are proud to introduce the ultra-fast charging system to the UAE, which provides enough charge for a 400-kilometer range in just 5 minutes, matching the refueling time of traditional vehicles. This addresses one of the largest challenges in acquiring electric vehicles and enhances the experience of owning them while simultaneously supporting the state’s ambitious environmental goals, further accelerating the shift toward sustainable transportation across the UAE.”
