Have you ever imagined living in a Gulf state like Bahrain and receiving a package or postal shipment delivered directly from the UAE by an autonomous drone flying to your doorstep? While this may seem like a fantasy, innovative UAE technology promises this could become a reality within a year.
The Emirati company “Load Autonomous,” specialized in manufacturing drones and AI-supported logistics, plans to launch its advanced drone delivery service for goods in the second half of 2026. This service will facilitate long-distance deliveries, including cross-border postal operations within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
Rashed Al-Manaei, the CEO of Load Autonomous, stated that the testing phase for the cutting-edge drones intended for long-distance delivery will commence in November of this year, continuing until around mid-next year before moving to commercial operations. This phase aims to cover both local and international markets based on the operational capabilities of the drones utilized.
Initially, operations will rely on two newly developed “Heli” model drones, capable of carrying loads of up to 250 kilograms and flying direct distances of up to 300 kilometers, enabling long-distance shipping, including cross-border air deliveries to neighboring countries.
Al-Manaei elaborated that production and development work on the drone is progressing at the company’s business complex in Khalifa Industrial City (KIZAD), where it is undergoing various testing phases to enhance technology, quality, and reduce risks.
The drone, weighing 1,350 kilograms, is designed with eight motors that enable it to complete specified long-distance journeys, utilizing vertical takeoff and landing capabilities to ensure smooth operations and successful shipment transfers.
Furthermore, Al-Manaei highlighted that the company aims to significantly reduce delivery times from the typical four days, especially for distant destinations, to a maximum of just four hours. This leap in cargo shipping technology will bolster the local market’s position as a leader in logistical advancements and enhance its regional influence in facilitating trade and goods movement to other markets.
The company is collaborating with a network of strategic partners to build a comprehensive infrastructure that encompasses various postal and shipping firms, thereby integrating the service and enhancing its reach within the logistics and shipping market across both local and regional spheres.
According to the CEO, the company’s vision for future operations is built on the success achieved in the initial phase of their autonomous drone delivery project, which commenced approximately a year ago with a fleet of 60 first-generation small drones.
This innovative postal service has garnered substantial success in terms of delivery speed, contributing to the development of logistics for small packages, establishing a strong local market presence, and attracting a diverse customer base, thus enhancing the delivery and transport volumes accomplished over that period.
