Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chair of the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, led the ninety-second meeting of the council, which took place at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Hotel, with the attendance of His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chair of the council.
The gathering also included His Excellency Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary-General of the council, alongside council members such as His Excellency Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, His Excellency Abdullah bin Kalban, Managing Director of Emirates Global Aluminium, His Excellency Hussein Lootah, CEO of the ENOC Group, Juan Freire, General Manager of Dubai Petroleum and DUSUP, and Mona Al Sayegh, Executive Director of Strategy and Corporate Governance at the Roads and Transport Authority.
During the meeting, the council reviewed the performance indicators of the programs and projects completed in 2025, in accordance with the established framework supporting clean energy initiatives and the efficient use of water and electricity. The assessment of these indicators aims to enhance the roadmap to support Dubai’s objectives of building a sustainable economy and an intelligent infrastructure.
The council also discussed the current operations at the Warsan waste-to-energy facility, noting that over 4.5 million tons of waste have been processed, with 62% of it diverted from landfills, aligning with Dubai’s target to eliminate landfill sites by 2041. This year, phase two of the project will be launched to expand waste processing capacity, ensuring an increased rate of waste conversion and reuse for energy generation.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer stated, “In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai is committed to establishing the emirate as a leading global model for sustainability and clean energy. During the meeting, we reviewed several strategic areas related to accelerating carbon emissions reduction and enhancing energy sector efficiency in the emirate, emphasizing our commitment to annual performance evaluations of programs and projects, incorporating new elements for continuous development and documenting implementation stages in the coming years. The governance system in place provides modern mechanisms for achieving clean energy strategic direction, resource management efficiency, green mobility, and carbon emissions reduction.”
Additionally, His Excellency Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi remarked, “We continue to leverage the latest technologies to enhance the waste management system and recovery efforts within a comprehensive strategy based on circular economy principles and private sector engagement in government project execution.”
