Emirates NBD Introduces Carbon Calculator on Mobile App

The Emirates NBD Bank has introduced a new service aimed at assisting customers in assessing their carbon footprint based on their transactions, utilizing the carbon calculator available in the mobile app “ENBD X.”

This initiative enhances the bank’s environmental, social, and governance strategy, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and excellence, while also aligning with national targets for environmental and community resilience.

The newly launched carbon calculator will be incorporated into the “ENBD X” mobile application, offering around 2 million users the ability to connect their financial well-being with climate action. The calculator automatically analyzes customer transactions and estimates the associated carbon dioxide emissions.

Customers will be able to effectively measure, manage, and reduce their emissions by adjusting their spending habits towards more sustainable practices. The feature provides personalized insights and encourages behavioral changes based on local calculations and recommendations, utilizing a monthly analysis of each client’s carbon footprint. Additionally, bank clients will have access to educational resources aimed at reducing emissions over time through a customized survey for Emirates NBD customers.

Climate Neutrality

Vijay Benz, Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of Environmental, Social and Governance at Emirates NBD Group, stated: “Emirates NBD is firmly committed to achieving the UAE’s 2050 climate neutrality strategy and is actively pursuing a low-carbon future for the UAE through leading strategic investments. We aim to empower our clients not only to understand their environmental footprint but also to manage and mitigate it, contributing to a collective impact for a healthier and more sustainable global future. The new carbon calculator redefines the standards for responsible banking, setting a new benchmark for the region.”

Raising Awareness

Yousef Saeed Mohammed, Head of Personal and Private Banking and Individual Banking Sales at Emirates NBD Group, remarked: “Undoubtedly, raising awareness is the first step towards change. We are excited to announce the carbon calculator as a pioneering and impactful initiative that will enable our clients to visualize their environmental impact, gaining insights and data that help them make responsible choices while achieving financial well-being. The launch of such initiatives reflects our capacity for innovation while maintaining a commitment to important environmental and social goals.”
