Flydubai has formalized a memorandum of understanding with Airbus for the purchase of 150 A321neo aircraft, marking the airline’s entrance as a new Airbus customer.
The agreement was signed by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chairman of Flydubai, along with Christian Scherer, the CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, during the second day of the Dubai Airshow 2025, in the presence of Ghaith Al Ghaith, the CEO of Flydubai.
Commenting on this significant announcement, Sheikh Ahmed stated, “We are excited to announce this historic agreement for the purchase of 150 Airbus A321neos, representing another important milestone in Flydubai’s journey. This new agreement not only adds aircraft to our fleet but also supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and aligns with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33.”
This strategic addition will diversify our fleet of single-aisle aircraft and enhance our long-term expansion plans. It positions Flydubai to play a significant role in the successful expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, which is expected to become the largest airport in the world.
The Airbus A321neo will facilitate the next phase of network development and enable us to meet the growing demand in our markets. We look forward to establishing a strong and lasting partnership with Airbus.
Integrating the latest generation of Airbus A321neo aircraft will support Flydubai’s strategy to expand its network, allowing customers to access new destinations with improved efficiency and comfort.
For his part, Christian Scherer remarked, “We are thrilled to welcome Flydubai, one of the most ambitious and rapidly growing airlines in the Middle East, as a new Airbus customer. The decision to invest in the A321neo and introduce it to its fleet strongly affirms the value these aircraft offer in terms of range, efficiency, and passenger comfort. We look forward to supporting Flydubai in its ongoing efforts to expand its network and operations with our aircraft.”
Based in Dubai, Flydubai operates a network of over 135 destinations across 57 countries, enhancing Dubai’s position as a global aviation hub.
The A321neo is part of the Airbus A320 family and incorporates the latest technology, including new-generation engines, Sharklet wingtip devices, and improved cabin efficiency features, collectively delivering more than 20% in fuel savings and reductions in CO2 emissions compared to the previous generation of single-aisle aircraft.
