G42 has announced significant advancements in the development of the “Emirates Stargate” project, which focuses on AI infrastructure. This extensive facility, boasting a capacity of 1 gigawatt, is being constructed by Khazna Data Centers, a subsidiary of the G42 group, within the broader UAE-American AI complex in Abu Dhabi, which has a total capacity of 5 gigawatts.
The “Emirates Stargate” initiative was unveiled last May and involves collaboration with global partners, including OpenAI, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank. The project has swiftly progressed from its design phase to construction under the leadership of Khazna. This marks a significant milestone in enhancing AI infrastructure within the UAE. The team is closely collaborating with its partners to successfully achieve the first 200 megawatts of the project’s total capacity of 1 gigawatt, adhering to an accelerated timeline. A G42 spokesperson confirmed that construction is proceeding robustly, and progress is steadily being made towards project completion.
Khazna is implementing a “design and build” approach to ensure a seamless transition from concept to execution. Design and engineering efforts are on track, with clear advancements in civil works, construction, and architectural aspects. Currently, final touches are being applied to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Meanwhile, the key standard components have entered the production phase. The project has successfully completed purchases of all long-lead equipment, and the first shipments of mechanical systems have already been delivered to the site, with over 20% of the systems received to date, underscoring the robustness and efficiency of the project’s supply chain.
The development of this facility aligns with the UAE’s comprehensive national strategy aimed at expanding AI infrastructure throughout the country. It will serve as a cornerstone for the nation’s AI ecosystem and contribute to G42’s vision of establishing a “Network of Intelligence,” ultimately fostering a future community built on artificial intelligence.
