The emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is witnessing a notable surge in tourist activity ahead of the New Year’s Eve celebrations, with hotel occupancy rates exceeding 90% during December. Several hotel managers and tourism sector representatives have reported a significant increase in room bookings from both local and international markets, leading many establishments to reach their full capacity. This influx is particularly evident in beachfront resorts and hotels located near the main celebration sites on Al Marjan Island and in the Al Hamra area. This scenario reflects the successful implementation of tourism strategies, along with improved infrastructure and a diverse range of entertainment events that have elevated Ras Al Khaimah’s status as a top regional destination for major celebrations.
Eyad Rasbeh, the Vice President of Destination Tourism Development at the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, emphasized that the high occupancy rates achieved by the emirate’s hotels ahead of the New Year festivities demonstrate the effectiveness of the promotional strategies adopted by the authority. He noted that this tourism momentum directly contributes to supporting the local economy and enhances the competitiveness of the tourism sector both nationally and regionally. This success is founded on the diversity of the tourism products, the quality of the infrastructure, and the comprehensive services provided to visitors.
He also pointed out that Ras Al Khaimah has been steadily adding unique tourist attractions and modern shopping centers over the past few years, which have become popular destinations for tourists from around the world. Additionally, the emirate’s growing presence in the events and entertainment industry further enhances its appeal, showcasing a mix of beaches, mountains, and natural landscapes that attract various visitor demographics.
According to Ashraf Saleh, General Manager of Bin Majid Hotels Group in Ras Al Khaimah, the group has achieved high occupancy rates, reaching full capacity just before the New Year celebrations, fueled by increasing demand from domestic and international tourists. This demand reflects the emirate’s rising reputation as a preferred destination for seasonal celebrations, particularly due to the variety of hotel offers and special packages designed to meet the expectations of diverse guests, enhancing their overall experience during the festive period.
December has seen a remarkable rise in occupancy rates, surpassing 90%. Saleh reiterated that the increasing competition in the hotel sector to attract tourist groups primarily benefits guests through a wide array of entertainment programs, events, and services offered by hotels year-round.
Cameron McNelly, General Manager of Intercontinental Resort and Spa Ras Al Khaimah, anticipates strong occupancy rates during the New Year’s period, especially among Arab guests, in line with the resort’s positive performance in previous years. He noted that the current pace of bookings indicates robust demand, with expectations of reaching full occupancy during this time. This optimism reflects the growing popularity of Ras Al Khaimah as a preferred destination for tourism and recreation, alongside the established position of the resort in the market. This year, the resort will host the “Royal Evening,” an exclusive dining event set on the beach in an exceptional atmosphere.
Engineer Abdullah Al Abdooli, CEO of Marjan Group, highlighted that Marjan Island hosts the majority of waterfront hotel facilities, which will feature the main fireworks events. He pointed out that the island will host the largest fireworks display ever this year as part of an effort to set a new world record in the Guinness World Records.
This year’s celebrations are characterized by innovative designs celebrating the spirit of progress and prosperity, reflecting ambitions for new horizons for Ras Al Khaimah. The display will combine advanced fireworks, artistic visual performances carried out by illuminated drones, and modern laser technology, transforming the sky above the emirate into a vibrant canvas of colors and lights.
