Sharjah Airport Authority Unveils Air Cargo Expansion Plans

The Sharjah International Airport Authority participated in the India Air Cargo 2026 exhibition, held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai from February 25 to 27. During the event, the authority presented its strategic plans for expansion in the air cargo sector, showcasing integrated logistics solutions, digital transformation initiatives, and sustainability strategies.

Throughout its participation, the authority explored opportunities for forming new partnerships with international cargo companies while also enhancing existing alliances, with the aim of delivering faster, more flexible, and sustainable shipping solutions globally. Their expansion plans signify a response to the increasing demand for comprehensive logistics solutions, especially for sea-air cargo services, further solidifying Sharjah’s role as a vital link in global supply chains.

This participation aligns with the authority’s ongoing efforts to expand its international presence and deepen engagement in global markets, positioning Sharjah Airport as a leading regional hub for air cargo. The authority focuses on sustainable investments in capacity enhancement, adopting smart technologies, advancing future-ready infrastructure, and implementing comprehensive development programs to increase annual passenger capacity while enhancing sustainability and integration across freight and ground handling services, in accordance with global best practices.

The event, recognized as one of the premier air cargo and logistics exhibitions in South Asia, brought together major international companies and industry leaders in logistics and supply chain, providing the authority with a crucial platform to strengthen air cargo trade links between Sharjah and various Asian markets, particularly in relation to perishables, express mail services, and live animal shipments. A delegation from Sharjah International Airport, alongside Air Arabia and Sharjah Aviation Services, participated as strategic partners in the exhibition, engaging in various meetings and discussions at the Sharjah Airport booth to boost trade connections with one of the airport’s key strategic markets.

The India Air Cargo 2026 exhibition offers a strategic platform for Sharjah Airport to enhance interactions with key exporters, airlines, and logistics service partners, which fosters and strengthens commercial relationships while opening new avenues for growth. As part of its digital transformation efforts, Sharjah Airport employs advanced systems for managing cargo operations, electronic data interchange platforms, and digital documentation processes that expedite cargo handling and enhance customs coordination. Additionally, automated handling solutions and tracking capabilities improve operational efficiency, minimize turnaround times, and increase transparency throughout the entire cargo supply chain.

Sharjah Airport has experienced robust growth in its cargo services over the past five years, with cargo handling surpassing 204,000 tons in 2025, compared to around 195,000 tons in 2024. This annual growth reflects the airport’s strategic importance as a fast-growing regional logistics hub and exemplifies its disciplined, data-driven expansion approach.
