Technology Reaches Its Peak During Ramadan as App Downloads Surge by 27%

The month of Ramadan has seen a significant rise in the engagement with technology, as individuals increasingly rely on it for various aspects of their daily lives. Data from AppsFlyer indicates a 27% increase in downloads for apps related to prayer times, as well as those for shopping and logistics services.

A report from TGM Research shows that approximately 76% of participants in the UAE spend more time on their mobile devices during this holy month.

Additionally, a study by The Trade Desk regarding media consumption in the Middle East reveals that around 56% of people dedicate more time to watching digital content during Ramadan compared to other months. Tech experts affirm that the digital transformation during Ramadan extends beyond mere entertainment, encompassing health management and personal security.

In this regard, analysts at Adjust have recognized a significant technological boom, reporting a 50% increase in the use of health and fitness applications in the UAE compared to the annual average. This reflects the growing desire among users to maintain their physical activity through digital solutions during fasting hours.

Voice Commands

According to Rami Abu Arja, Senior Marketing and Innovation Manager at Yango Middle East, Ramadan is one of the most active seasons for the use of voice commands at home. People tend to repeat the same routines several times a day, such as checking prayer times, setting reminders, and playing audio content.

Throughout Ramadan, listening to Quran recitations consistently ranks as the most popular experience on Yango Yasmina, highlighting how seamlessly the smart assistant integrates into the daily routines of fasting individuals. Abu Arja added:

“Based on anonymized user data publicly shared, users average about 22 interactions per day, with peak days seeing up to 44 interactions.” Smart devices support daily requests related to fasting that many families utilize throughout the month, such as inquiries about prayer times and scheduling Quran recitations as alarms.

Users can ask questions related to calendars and timings, set various reminders, and play audio content that enhances the atmosphere of the holy month, including radio broadcasts and applications that provide worship-related tips.

Convenience and Ease

A representative from Jumbo Electronics stated that during Ramadan, technology plays a crucial role in providing convenience and facilitating task completion. We typically see an increase of 25% to 30% in the sales of durable goods and major home appliances, particularly televisions and essential household devices, compared to the same period last year.

Television sales see a noticeable uptick as families spend more time at home, especially in the evenings. Large screens continue to drive demand, as providers aim to elevate their home entertainment experience. As Eid approaches, purchasing patterns shift towards gift items.

Segments such as small appliances, wearable devices, and electronic gaming products also witness a significant rise, with consumers purchasing gifts for family and friends.

Additionally, in the information technology sector, we are observing a growth of around 15% in value, bolstered by stable demand for laptops and accessories.

Meanwhile, office automation products—including printers, projectors, and screens—are experiencing growth driven by both business clients and home users, as many families continue to rely on hybrid working environments, and small companies strive to enhance productivity during this period.

Advanced Technologies

Vik Shen, Business Director at TCL in Dubai, noted that Ramadan traditionally sees a remarkable increase in technology usage in the UAE, particularly regarding premium large-screen televisions. Specifically, the demand for QD-Mini LED and OLED screens starting from 75 inches and above is surging.

There is a growing trend toward home viewing experiences that rival cinema settings, with heightened interest in technologies offering high brightness levels, deep contrast, and advanced display performance suitable for spacious living areas.

The television market in the UAE is estimated to be around 85 to 90 million dirhams monthly, translating to sales of approximately 35,000 to 40,000 units each month.

Forecasts indicate the market could grow by 10% to 12% over the year 2026, spurred by increasing demand for large screens and the adoption of the latest display technologies.

Various age groups in the country utilize televisions, but the highest usage is among families, particularly those aged 25 to 45, where the television serves as a focal point for family gatherings, especially during Ramadan.
