Chinese company CATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, showcased a comprehensive array of energy storage and electric mobility solutions during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, highlighting its intention to enhance its investments and operations in the UAE.
Michael Wing, the Head of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for the Middle East, remarked in an interview with the Emirates News Agency that participating in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a significant milestone for the company. He praised the quality of the exhibition and its organization, emphasizing that the robust ties between China and the UAE, along with a supportive investment climate and favorable policies, position the UAE as an ideal destination for Chinese enterprises.
Wing noted that CATL holds approximately 40% of the global market share in electric vehicle batteries and energy storage systems. He pointed out that the company not only presented traditional energy storage solutions but also introduced advanced innovations, including smart chassis platforms, autonomous driving solutions, portable and stationary battery containers, fast charging systems, as well as comprehensive solutions encompassing the entire value chain from manufacturing to commercial use.
He affirmed that these solutions, which span from production to practical application, could significantly assist the UAE in achieving its carbon neutrality goals and transitioning to clean energy.
Regarding the chassis platform, which serves as a complete technical framework on which vehicles are built, Wing explained that it is one of CATL’s key innovations, providing a ready-made and comprehensive solution that includes battery and operational systems. This allows organizations aiming to launch new electric vehicle brands to focus on exterior design and visual identity without requiring substantial investments in research and development in the early stages.
He added that this model reduces time-to-market and lowers initial development costs, while also allowing for incremental investment in research, development, and custom designs in the future, thereby supporting the growth of the electric vehicle industry both locally and regionally.
Wing reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting the global transition towards renewable energy and sustainability, and contributing to the establishment of a low carbon emission future in collaboration with the UAE.
