The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Rebound, a company specializing in circular economy solutions, to provide data and analysis on material and waste flows. The aim of this collaboration is to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in circular economy sectors, conduct joint studies, and develop innovative initiatives that align with the UAE’s Circular Economy Policy 2021-2031.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Mariam Humaid Al-Naqbi, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Policies and Studies at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, and Mariam Al Mansouri, Founder and General Manager of Rebound.
Building Partnerships
Dr. Al-Naqbi emphasized the essential role of the private sector in supporting the nation’s shift towards a circular economy model. The Ministry is committed to strengthening collaborations and building strategic partnerships with various companies and organizations to implement and develop circular economy policies. This includes exchanging knowledge, identifying challenges, and setting priorities for the four main sectors outlined in the circular economy policy: manufacturing, food, transportation, and infrastructure. She stated, “Through our collaboration with Rebound, we aim to create sustainable solutions and launch joint initiatives that foster innovation in resource management, promote sustainable models, and minimize environmental harm, all while ensuring greater efficiency in design, manufacturing, reuse, recycling, and increasing productivity, thus balancing economic growth and environmental preservation in line with the UAE’s Circular Economy Agenda 2031.”
Knowledge Exchange
Mariam Al Mansouri mentioned, “We are excited to sign this memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism to support the implementation of the UAE’s Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031. We look forward to practical collaboration involving the exchange of expertise and data, specialized workshops, and joint studies.”
The memorandum encompasses various areas of collaboration, including the exchange of information and expertise, organization of workshops, capacity building, development of studies and reports, and participation in relevant conferences and official missions. Additionally, it aims to explore future joint projects. Under the memorandum, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, along with the UAE Circular Economy Council, will receive accurate data and analyses on material and waste flows, supporting initiatives and experimental projects through specialized workshops, which aid in achieving national objectives for the circular economy.
This memorandum is part of the nation’s efforts to promote an innovative and sustainable business environment, supporting companies and entrepreneurs in adopting eco-friendly economic solutions, thereby increasing investments and enhancing the country’s competitiveness on a global scale.
